Vegetable gardening for self sufficiency at home or on the allotment can be fun and put good food on the table. By not watering too much we can encourage our plants to grow strong and healthy by finding their own water and nutrients in the soil. Strong roots grow strong plants. To do this we have to water seedlings and newly transplanted plants often in the hot weather but once they are established we cut back the watering and this allows them to grow a better root system. Some plants require more help but they will often surprise us by going through several hot days with now added water.
